CAS Experience- Farewell 2022

To make this farewell memorable, it was important to keep in mind that the decorations are eye catching and beautiful. I was a volunteer in the decor team of farewell batch of 2022. While volunteering I learned many new skills.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

While making the decoration I faced several challenges. This included having balance between studies and farewell, learning different techniques and decoration items for photo booths. For decorations I went for early in, utilised my free slots and missed few of my subject slots. But, then I made sure to revise the concepts covered in class so that my studies are not hampered. When I was learning how to make paper flowers and arranging other decorations, I had to ask others several times about how to do it, because it was difficult. But at the end, I understood the technique and the flowers turned out great. This helped me learn new skills, which I can also use in future while making decorations.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

It was difficult to take out time for farewell decorations while concentrating on studies. We have only a few days left but decorations were not completed so I even came for early in. Sometimes there were conflict of interests, resource delays but I continued to work and helped complete the decorations on time.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

It is usually difficult for me to work collaboratively but this experience was different and working together made the work easy. The workload was equally divided amongst all the volunteers (we divided ourselves in 3 groups-lawn, assembly and red carpet) where we were given specific roles like paper cutting, hangings ,etc. This helped complete the decorations more efficiently and on time. Through this experience I learned that working collaboratively can help you complete things without any delays.

LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

This entire event was planned keeping in mind sustainability and waste generation. We tried to use minimal resources and even reused many resources. For example for one of the photo booths we had an idea of covering it with CDS and cards. For this, instead of buying new ones, we asked teachers and classmates to get CDS and cards if they aren’t using them at home. We used existing materials that school had like cloth for hangings and cheerleader pom poms. This ensured minimal waste generation and maximum usage of all the resources we have.

Final Takeaway:

Initially when became a volunteer I did that to experience the farewell, but the process turned out to be interesting and fun. Getting to know more about arts and these creative ideas also sparked an interest in me. These learnings can also help me while planning an events or making presentations in a creative way.
