I’ve always wanted to try sketching skulls and gothic figures from basics to their structuring and construction. Learning and developing artistic abilities, have always been one of my weaknesses so I decided to take it up as my CAS experience.
LO 2:
I’ve never done sketching before, be it sketching figures or objects and art has never been my strength, hence in order to sketch skulls I had to learn everything like basics, structure, measurements, curves and etc in a short period of time. Till grade 8 we had visual arts as a compulsory subject and had different assignments, so I’ve done basics of sketching a long time ago but I was out of practice. So in order to overcome the challenge, I drew sketches from the basics, watched youtube videos, and practice every week. After undertaking this challenge I am content and happy that I learned something I’ve been wanting for a long time and develop my artistic skills and the creative part of my brain instead of neglecting it. I discovered that my sketching skills are better than I know and with a little bit more consistent practice my drawings can become precise. This activity cleared my basics of drawing so if I ever have to draw something, I would at least be knowing the basics making any object or specific image to draw easier. Having this skill makes me feel useful because in any future situations I wouldn’t be having to take help with drawing images since I already know the basics, and the construction of images can be molded in a clean manner. It is important to learn new skills because that ultimately leads to self-development, which is going to help you at some point time in your life be it 10 hours later,10 days, or 10 years.
LO 3:
I organized myself by dedicating time slots of the week such as weekends to bring this plan to an outcome and make it an experience. I also made a plan on how will I go from basics to constructing, structuring, and the final designs. So I basically had to work on each part of my plan for a specific period of time. I am usually an organized person but execution on time has always been the hard part. Bringing this plan and following the schedule was actually difficult as sketching has never been my thing so always being interested in it wasn’t easy. Planning or initiating anything in the future will be easier now as now I have learned to break them into different bits and pieces, setting deadlines for parts of my plan with a little bit of time gap so my plan runs smoothly as well as is realistic. Hence it is important to plan so the process runs smoothly and in an organized manner.
LO 4:
Commitment and perseverance were very important which made this activity more difficult since in order to cross different stages of sketching skills to develop. If I wouldn’t be committed then my work wouldn’t have been finished before my deadline, hence commitment was a vital necessity. Once I start it’s easy to commit but I just have to start then I’ll start being consistent.
To wrap it all up creating an action plan and demonstrating commitment and perseverance while undertaking the new challenges that will be faced in developing new skills was helpful. Learning how to sketch helped me build creativity and provided me with universal art capability.
