Tree Plantation

I volunteered in a one day mass tree plantation event organized by Econova which is a NGO based in Surat. With a fee of Rs. 400, I planted 4 trees. The money was donated Prayosha which is a NGO based in Dang, Gujarat. These funds were used by the NGO to safeguard the Dang forest and to promote both the welfare of the forest and its tribal inhabitants. Hence, I was also able to indirectly affect the forest of Dang and help preserving the environment there too. I was also able to cater the SDGs Good Health and Well-being, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action and Life on Land.

LO6 : The issue is climate change. Climate change is a devastating global issue, one of the main leading factors of it is deforestation. Deforestation contributes in greenhouse between 12 percent to 17 percent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases cause global warming and therefore climate change. I knew the importance of this issue since a long time and wanted to take action on it, even if it is a small step towards a greener earth. After catering this issue through this CAS activity, I felt very good about it.

LO 7: An ethical issue of this might be that planting so many trees in a spot can disrupt the natural ecosystem of that area and also disrupt the food chain by increasing the population that is dependent on such trees. If our efforts to preserve environment were to backfire, we would feel very bad so to avoid this ethical issue, we took some preventive measures. We made sure that we planted trees on barren land and in areas where an ecosystem was not already established.

In conclusion, this was a very good experience for me and I also felt very positive after I was able to help the environment, even though it was in a small way. CAS and Econova gave me the opportunity to do this and i am very grateful for it and I will continue to volunteer in such events.
