U&I is a charity driven by volunteers that has partnered with corporate and social organisations, to work towards positive social change in education, anti-trafficking, women welfare and mental health.During the pandemic, people started working remotely, U&I has leveraged technology to build team engagement through virtual volunteering. I found out about U&I through a WhatsApp group and further filled their form to check out what it is. Now, I am a volunteer teaching every weekends.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Teaching online isn’t something I had ever experienced, I was nervous about what will happen and whether the kid would even like me or not. However, I knew that I am usually good with kids I would just have to find ways to do the same through a screen. The first session was a little bumpy as the kid got hungry and wasn’t able to focus till the end, however he did say that he enjoyed it but couldn’t pay attention due to his hunger.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience
The classes were scheduled every weekend but there were times I would miss them because of my own schedule but I decided that they needed time and I would have to adjust my routine so I could fit their classes in.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
In order to become a volunteer we were taken an interview of we were also informed about the policies they have and we were asked to fill out forms and tests that made sure that we knew what we can do and what we can’t do.
