Unitree is an organization that helps kids with down syndrome and teen volunteers come together and share a good bond. This initiative has been taken in order to focus more on the SDG ‘ reduced inequality ‘.
I volunteered here for wall painting, where we had to paint a ‘WE’ on the wall along with down syndrome kids and also interact with them.
Learning outcome 2: Identifying own strengths and developing areas for growth.
Since I was a kid I liked drawing and painting. I also used to go to painting classes for a year and a half. Painting also helps us relax and calm down and so I find it as one of my strengths.
Learning outcome 6: Engagement with issues of global significance.
In this service, volunteers came along with the kids suffering from down syndrome to paint a wall. These children face a lot of issues in their day-to-day lives, the major one being ‘ treated differently ‘, and not getting enough from society as people think this problem is not significant enough. Being treated differently is a huge problem as they don’t have the option to choose a life how they want it to be, and they are humans as well, when they do not have any choice people have no right to act differently with them. This is a huge problem and it needs to be focused upon.
Learning outcome 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Before volunteering for this activity 0f wall painting , I had no clue what down syndrome was, I did not even know to what extent it could affect the kids that have it. During this activity, we communicated with the kids having down syndrome and understood what they have to go through and I would be willing to help them whenever and wherever needed. Also, I started to spread more awareness about the same.
