Basketball tournament training

A few days back, we organized a basketball tournament within our society and since it had been very long since the last time I played basketball I thought of enrolling in a basketball training programme. I trained for the game for a month where I used to practice thrice a week. Since basketball is a team game not only your skills matter but your synergy and coordination with the team matters too. So every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday the entire team used to play for 2 hours from 7-9 pm.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

The only way to grow in a sport is through getting to know your mistakes while you practice. Similarly, during my training session, introspection and the suggestions from my team mates helped me identify my strengths in the game and the things I need to work on. I knew that I had to work on my offense and shooting. One of the benefits of playing a team game is that you learn a lot through your team mates and with keen observation every single practice session, I used to learn a new technique from one of my mates and apply that in the game.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

I knew that if I wanted to perform at my level best during the tournament I had to show commitment and be consistent with my practice. One of the most difficult yet important things to practice in a sport is consistency. For me commitment is one of the most difficult tasks amongst the rest. It took a lot of efforts to push myself every alternate day to go down and get in the court.

LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

A team game especially basketball is more about the spirit than the ball. My coach always taught me to be respectful to the sport, referee and the court no matter what. I was always taught to play with ethics despite of the opposite team player’s playing attitude and that’s what I took with myself to this training as well. I played with ethics, chose to react in a respectful manner and respected the sport.

All in all, it was great to play basketball after so long and I hope I continue to learn more and more from it every time I play.
