To put forward the importance of reading and its invaluable contribution towards making one more knowledgeable and creative, the teachers of Grade 9 students had organized an event called ‘Reading Reveries’. This event called upon students from higher grades to come and share their experience of reading and explain its importance, inturn encouraging the students of grade 9 to indulge in reading. I was called upon as a student facilitator and I shared my experience and carried out fruitful discussion with the students reading their favorite books. I shared my review of some of my preffered books the twilight series, the kite runner, Harry Potter and many more. While also engaging other students by pushing them to share their favourite books as well. By the end of the sessions many students were convinced to give reading another try and hence my purpose was fulfilled.
LO1 – I identified my strengths, which was reading and decided to put this strength to use by convincing other people to read. I am also a good communicator so I tried making the session more participative in nature so that it is not mundane and monotonous.
LO3 – To make this session intresting, I planned the flow of the session and shortlisted books that I believed would pique the student’s interest. I also did a mock session and ensured to use revelant terminologies such that the grade 9 students could easily comprehend. I took feedback upon my book selection from the teacher incharge.
LO7 – The session was scheduled on the 21st September, which was during several IB submissions such as BM IA, econ commentry and extended essay. Although I knew it was imperative that I share my experience with the other students as it could transform their mindset about reading and books. Hence, I extended myself and facillitated the session despite having a lot of submissions, while also ensuring to not compromise on my work.
I showcased the leaner profile of knowledgable and communicator throughout the planning session and during conducting it.
