Trekking (Activity and service)

During the summer break, I and my friends were planning to go on a trip and were contemplating different places. Then we decided to go for a hike in Manali, India. It was after a long time that I was going on a trip with my friends, and also full of adventure and challenges. During the entire trip, we gained an altitude of 13500ft above sea level. We had a lot of fun trekking and a whole new experience of living without our cell phones and sleeping in tents. We also visited many different campsites but found that different groups who were staying there prior to us, had litter around and there was a lot of garbage which was harmful to the local animals. So before setting up the tents we cleaned all the garbage in order to maintain cleanliness. The learning outcomes which were covered are LO 1 and LO 7.

Learning outcome 1:-

Hiking has always been my strength as this was the fourth trek I went on. Me being an extroverted person I really like to explore different places and nature. This trek helped me to know my fitness levels, as it tested me mentally and physically, and I came to know that I was the best fit for the trek as I doubted my fitness levels post-lockdown. After the trek, I was still left with some energy but I realized that I lacked communication skills as I was not able to converse properly with the locals over there.

Learning outcome 7:-

After cleaning the garbage, we stored it in a bag and the bag was placed in the middle of the campsite. Every morning we collected all the waste that was present and visible and we took the garbage bag down with us and then dumped it into the dustbin. This was the first ethical consideration. Another is that we were struggling to acclimatize to the cold but we did not light a born fire where it was prohibited. Therefore, no ethical boundaries were crossed.
