In the Summer break of 2022 me and my four friends decided to go trekking to the phulara ridge, it was a 5 day trek from 21st to 26th may. It was organized by India hikes, a sustainable hiking/trekking organization where they encourage you to pick up litter while on the trek if you find any. It was a memorable experience and somewhat pushed me to my limits.
LO2:
As we started to ascend to the base camp, I had no breathing issue due to altitude increasing but on the first day of trekking, I had some issues with stamina and a sometimes breathing, but I kept going, after a while one of friends got injured and as a result I had to carry another 4 kg backpack on me plus the one I had on which 6kg. This made it very hard for me to reach the site, we were at the back of the group. It was a tremendously tiring day but since on the second day, I didn’t have to carry the other 4kgs since it was off loaded,it was much easier to climb the rest of the way.
LO4:
As I knew I had mid to high level stamina and I was confident that I would be able to complete 5 km under 35 mins as it was required by the trek company to deem you fit for the trek. At last I gave it a try and had a time of 32:52, this was a good boost for my confidence but yet it was just below the mark. I decided I had to keep it up or improve and decided to go for 1km runs everyday either in the gym or outside.
LO6:
Trekking has been extremely famous in recent years. This has caused an increase in litter as people start to trek and do not have a trash bag. As we trekked from the base camp to the ridge we saw a lake that was extremely polluted because many people discarded trash and other waste in it. India hikes is company that promotes green trekking meaning we pick up trash as we climb to our summit or ridge as we went on we picked up a ton of litter sometimes it was chocolate bar wrapper and many of times it was just huge bags of plastic.
