Last month I finished a free online course from Great learning, where I learned about the basics of Graphic design. This was a progress-based course, and I learned many new things which will help me in the future, knowing that I want to pursue something in the arts field.
L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Since I already knew a little about graphics, I had strength in color theory and some aspects of design. This course helped me work on my existing skills and additionally learn more about the same. I was exposed to terms like area aesthetics, type aesthetics, effect, type composition, signs, publications, map symbols, map design, perception and communication. Most of which I was not wholly aware of. My area of skills expanded rapidly through this course.
L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills
I spend 3 hours every week learning this course, challenges like not being able to find sufficient time to focus on this experience were faced because school work and extracurriculars were more concerning. And design is not like any other subject, there are no rights and wrongs, and it being an art required me to ‘practice’. And at large learn from any errors that I could have made while learning. Not just the course however I spent time apart from the course to become a better designer. I developed my creative-thinking skills, and my time-management skills largely.
L3- initiate and plan a CAS experience
Before starting the online course, I planned my schedule wherein I spend most of my time focusing on essentials. Yet also finding enough time to focus on my course. The planning was comparatively easy since I had my priorities in check from the very beginning.
L4-commitment to and perseverance
If I would have had a long gap between every time I did the course, I would have missed out on a lot of the important work. Like any other experience, this one too required commitment. And I faced no challenge as such keeping it that way since designing is one of my many interests. Hence, I was perseverant.
