Anand Utsav was an event organized by grade 12 students for the school’s support staff and admin team. This event was a combination of fun activities, dances and team building activities tailor made for the staff members for recreation and giving them some time away from their duties. This was a way that us as students showed our gratitude to them for the services they provide to us.
I was a part of the on day volunteering team and carried out games for the staff members like bidding dumbcharades, killer-killer (Mafia) and garba (traditional dance). I also helped in he decor for the event, such as venue arrangements, poster sticking, and resource management on the day of the event.
Learning outcomes catered to:
- Learning outcome 1 – Identify own strength and develop areas for growth I identified my own strength like anchoring and dancing and volunteered in the segments that would put these skills to use. I made the staff play team games, that involved communicating instructions and say statements throughout the game. And I was a part of the dance activity, garba, since I already knew the dance form and taught the same to others.
- Learning outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively I was working in a team for the anand utsav, with hierarchal orders assigned to us. Since this event was at a large scale, working collaboratively was essential to ensue that everything went smoothly. The event was taking place at 2 venues simultaneously, hence delegation of work ensured that the crowd was divided and all segments of the event were carried out.
- Learning Outcome 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions I chose to be a volunteer in this event since I recognized the importance of ‘acts of kindness’ and paying it forward. I believed that the services that we received from the support staff and the admin staff, had to be acknowledged by us as students and hence volunteering at Anand utsav was an ideal choice to show my gratitude.
My experience at anand utsav was quite memorable since this was the time we interacted so closely with the support and admin staff, in such an informal setting. I was able to demonstrate the learner profile ‘caring’ during this entire event. It showed empathy and most importantly respect towards all staff members.
