(LO-1, LO-2, LO-4)
Frisbee is something which I’m very passionate about and I also really enjoy playing and being part of a very competitive team. And this CAS experience is all about where I practice throws and catching thrice in a week in order to improve my game and contribute to the team. Keeping this in mind my goal was to do well in the SUO (frisbee tournament) which was held on 30 – 31st October 2021.
During the course of this experience I identified that my since I’m very fast and I have great reflexes with high agility. All of this combined made me a great catcher of a frisbee disc as I could run very fast and also if required layout around the ground to catch the disc. And with more and more practice perhaps, this became my strength. However, the other part of my game which is throwing is slightly weaker as compared to my catching. Although with tremendous practice it has seen a huge improvement, that is why I say slight. Moreover, this improvement in throwing has done a whole lot of good and has boosted my confidence as a thrower.
Since I had successfully identified my strengths and weaknesses through this experience, I feel satisfied as a player that I’m moving in the direction as in working upon my strengths and weaknesses and looking to improve always. I believe it is very important and necessary for any player to know their strengths and weaknesses because those are the things that help a player to become better and better with time. A good player will always look to learn from their mistakes and will look to work upon their weakness. This can only be achieved if a player is aware about their strengths and weaknesses.
Through this experience I worked significantly on my weakness and was very determined to improve as a frisbee player since it was allow me to be flexible as a player and play in both departments (offense and defense) for the team. Perhaps, I would have been more utilized by the team if I had both departments equally strong.
Throughout this experience, the new skill that I learned was attempting a successful layout. It is one of the toughest skill to have as it needs to have a rock solid technique along with guts and instincts. Learning the technique was the most challenging part as it required a lot of practice along with a risk of injury. Since you have very less time in air during a layout, as a player you have to be mentally alert and conscious while attempting a layout in order to perform with correct technique. Before playing frisbee, it was never required to attempt a layout. Perhaps, it was a new challenge that I had to overcome and be extremely good at it.
In order to overcome this challenge, As I said before, this requires tremendous practice and precision which a players develops over a period of time. Perhaps, with regular practice I developed the right technique which was required to attempt a successful layout. I always felt that diving around on the filed always shows your commitment towards your game and team. Therefore, If I ever get an opportunity I wouldn’t hesitate to put my body on the line and try an attempt for a layout if required. Now that I have undertaken this challenge and successfully overcome the same, I feel very motivated as a player that I am looking forward to getting better every time.
To begin with, for me as a player, It is very important and necessary to undertake new challenges that come my way as it will help me understand my own game much better and ultimately help me improve and get better as a player. i.e. I made up my mind to learn the correct technique for attempting a layout as it was a skill that was not there in my armory. After successfully learning the same, it makes me more lethal in the defense line up knowing the fact that I have the ability to even put my body on the line for the team. Therefore, learning the correct technique helped me improve and made me a better player.
The newly learned skill will be helpful to me in the future whenever I play frisbee again. Also If I get an opportunity to play at the highest level, these skills will be really helpful to showcase my best game and put the best foot forward. Having learned these set of new skills, it makes me feel very motivated to do more and get better and better.
First of all, perseverance and commitment is always necessary in every sport/game that you play, and frisbee is no different. Throughout the experience, I tried to give my 100% commitment by analyzing my strengths and weaknesses and looking to work upon the same. However, whenever I’m not at the top of my game, I try to be patient and persistent and look to do the basics right to get back doing my best.
Throughout the experience I had to be on my toes in terms of time management and prioritization because I had many others things to do except for frisbee. However, since I wanted to improve in the same, I prioritized frisbee wherever it was possible and showed my commitment towards my game.
Personally, it is never easy for me to commit to things because I am not able to be consistent at it. And it is an area of improvement and something that I’ve started to work upon. After all, when you want to achieve something, you have to give your 100% commitment to it and for that you have to be persistent and consistent with the same.
