I joined the cycling club organized by some of my friends and the second program of the club was to go to Dumas beach by cycling and clean the beach. We went to Dumas every Sunday for 4 Sundays starting from 8th August 2021 to 29th August 2021. Over there we all cleaned a portion of the Dumas beach which was full of litter such as cold drink bottles, plastic bottles, plastic spoons, plates, glasses, old shoes, some torn clothes, etc. We picked up all wastes and collected them in big garbage bags which were afterward kept at the place from where the garbage trucks take it for proper disposal. The wastes lying all along the beach affect the environment by polluting the land as it can’t decompose, pollute the seawater, and affects marine life by getting stuck into their mouths while eating their food. So my group members decided to take action upon this and by this, the Dumas beach cleaning group was formed. Through this project, we were able to achieve SDG goals 13, 14, 15 which stands for – ‘climate action, life on land and life on the water’.
LO 4 – In this project, I was involved every Sunday regularly which was a positive point for me. And I did my active engagement in cleaning the beach and tried to give my 100% while cleaning so that I could save others’ lives from waste.
LO 5 – This LO talks about the collaboration which we did while cleaning the beach as we were about 15-20 members and we collaboratively cleaned the beach. We had a benefit of collaboration which was that as more people could cover more portions so we could clean up more of the beach.
LO 6 – Through this project, we are catering to a huge problem of Surat because Dumas beach of surat is one of the most crowded beaches on weekends and on holidays which generates a huge amount of waste that causes pollution and becomes harmful for living below water and living on land. When these wastes particles are inhaled by fishes it gets stuck into their gills and cause problem to them while breathing and unfortunately, they die due to this problem, moreover when the same thing happens on land animals like dogs and birds living near coastal areas find their food inside the wastes thrown by humans and sometimes along with the food they by mistakenly intakes plastic which is harmful to their health, plastic gets stuck inside their stomach and causes deadly diseases. So we took a step to reduce death to keep our environment clean, we decided to clean the Dumas beach to an extent and reduce the cause of death and keep our environment safe and clean.
