WordWise is a literary event, which has been taking place at our school every year. Being a literature student, it gave me immense pleasure to organize this event for writers all around the school. In this event, we inspire writers to share their written pieces in whichever form they may be. I was the in-charge of the literature component wherein I read and review the entries submitted by the participants to skim through any inappropriate language. Moreover, I made sure that the event was organized and had a proper flow. I was also hosting the event along with one of my peers. To sum it up, two of us, my friend and I were the event coordinators for the same.
LO-1
Being a language student and an avid reader, I was excited to organize this event as I got access to numerous literary pieces. We had to make sure that the content wasn’t inappropriate. To ensure the same, I had a team of 3 people review the submitted works. I took this role as I enjoyed reading exotic works and could apply myself to the fullest.
LO-2
As this was my first time organizing an event, I wasn’t aware of official protocols and my role. I often asked supervisors the littlest of queries and didn’t take the lead at first. However, as we proceeded, we had to make calls on our own and take charge of the whole event. Moreover, never having led a team before, there was hesitation from my side, whether people would cooperate or not. Again, when I took charge, I realized that they were waiting for me to guide them and make this event a success. As everything came together, there were hurdles along the way like creating an aesthetic décor. We had so many ideas in our mind, however, to use the resources to the fullest and not create unnecessary waste, we ended up using reusable décor which has been utilized before in other school events.
LO-3
We had one month to initiate and plan the entire event with vacations in between. Therefore, we rolled out the forms before the breaks, to give time to writers. During the breaks, the only work was to sort through the entries and review them. This was smooth as we had a spreadsheet with responses from everyone and was quite easy to segregate the pieces based on the language. I am not familiar with the Gujarati language. Here, the other team members contributed and took up those pieces. Other than this, we also maintained a sheet to organize ourselves. We created a space wherein all of our ideas were updated and a checklist was created to complete all the mandatory tasks before we forget the same.
LO-5
An event requires teamwork to be successful. Here also we needed as much help we could get and from the start, we had volunteers who were willing to put their hundred per cent into making this event a huge success. Therefore, I never felt like the collaboration was at fault as everybody conducted their roles with responsibility, whether it was reviewers or the creative team. Again, working together with a group was a new experience, however, it made me realize my boundaries and the way I behave in social interaction. It helped me act better and be more grateful for beautiful teamwork.
It was very much necessary to work collaboratively as I, alone cannot handle all the responsibility and succeed in putting up an event. Team members make our work easier as don’t have to worry about small details. Collaboration also increases efficiency as everyone fulfils their role as a contributor to the team.
LO-6
While using things for decoration, we made sure to reuse most of the existing decor and not create any new to avoid wastage. We borrowed art installations from a VA student to again reuse the resources as well as create a platform for them to exhibit their artwork. We tried our best to responsibly consume the products and not create a wastage. I tried implementing the same in future activities as well, wherein we made paper out of waste papers.
LO-7
We believe that everyone received a fair chance to perform and express themselves. We maintained the same by not changing anything in their works, other than ensuring appropriate language were being used. Moreover, we had multiple last-minute entries, which we entertained after seeing the enthusiasm of people.
