Nature club surat is an NGO working for Environment Education, Adventure Activities, and Rescue Work since 1985. We are also working on various projects for Conservation, Protection, and Breeding. I decided to sign up as a volunteer in the eco-farm of the NGO. The family-oriented attraction with a petting zoo, adventure park & eco-related educational activities.
LO-1 (Identify your strengths and develop areas for growth).
In volunteering, I was assigned to carry out tours for the people that come to the Eco-Farm. During this course, I was able to improve my communication skills and took part in new activities like petting animals and feeding birds myself. I was able to memories new and fascinating facts about different animals and try to make their trips better and more fun.
LO-2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process)
Talking to people or taking caring for animals was a huge task for me that was completely new for me. It was a new environment for me and throughout the volunteering, I was able to learn new skills and get myself familiar in the feild.
LO-4 (Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences)
I visited the Eco-Farm frequently and made it my long term experience. During the weeks when my school assignments and assesments clashed with the visit, I made changes to the plan to complete a month of volunteering in the club in total. With the active engagement, I was able to make a lot of new memories and gain experience that I will remember till a very long time.
LO-5 (Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively)
During the trips, I was partnered up with other volunteers to manage the crowds to make it engaging for all age groups. With this coordination I was able to dedicate roles and contribute to the volunteering in the right way. I was clear with my role in the group and I was able to assist the new volunteers to guide them to become better at their roles.
LO-6 (Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance)
Animal life is a crucial part in the enviornment around us, the NGO works towards saving, treating and running adoption drives for these exotic animals. Getting the opportunit to volunteer here, I was able to take part in a noble couse and spread awarness in the socitey about these animals and birds and encourage them to donate and take actions accordingly. Saving life of exotic animals and birds is an international problem and working towards respectfully helping and responsibly speading awareness about these animals helped me gain a great experience.
LO-7 (Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions)
Animal lives are often related to the ethical issues. Being in the NGO, I was sure that I wasn’t working against any unethical decisions and guidelines for the lives of these animals. While talking to the guests, I made sure to spread the awareness about the different ethical choices and actions one can take to save these animals and become a part of a great cause.
Volunteering in the NGO was one of the best experiences so far, it helped me develop new skills and learn so many interesting things.
