I joined the Robinhood Army to help the ones in need. Robinhood Army’s main purpose is to provide food in the slum areas. They gather food in different manners; they collect leftover food from restaurants and fill wheat sacks with packet foods bought from donated money. They are very regular in helping the needy with the food, they have at least one food drive every day in my city. I have made sure to go to these drives at least once or twice every month. After being a volunteer for a month and regular at the food drives, I was promoted to being a Robin of the organization. They have more responsibilities; as a robin, I had to decide for different possible locations in my city, help load trucks with food, and many other things.
LO 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
In the beginning, it was hard for me to take out time to do something I was not inclined towards, however, once I started enjoying helping the poor people I was able to spare more time for the service. I developed communication and social skills, as I met other volunteers to collaborate with them to help the ones in need. Along with that, I also developed time management skills as I had to adjust and make time for volunteering between long school durations and deadlines.
LO 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
This was the first time for me to take part or volunteer for an NGO such as the Robinhood Army and help society. I had initially planned to go for food drives just for the purpose of completing a CAS experience, but once I devoted my time, I felt I could help more people. I chose this as a short-term experience, however, I ended up contributing to helping society with the organization for over six months. As I enjoyed helping and volunteering for the Robinhood Army, I ended up directing a lot of my free time with the organization.
LO 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
As mentioned earlier, after a month, I was promoted to being a robin. As a robin, I had to collaborate with a lot of other volunteers. It was important for me to work with others to find appropriate locations and sponsors for the food drives. Collaborating with a group of people made everyone’s work a lot easier and more efficient. As a result, we were able to organize successful drives for other volunteers.
LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Throughout the experience, I realized how this local issue in my city holds true significance on a global level also. A sustainable development goal was formed stating “Zero Hunger.” The sustainable goals cater to issues that are important to be catered to. By volunteering for the Robinhood Army I performed activities and drives that contribute to the goal of “Zero Hunger.”
