Motor racing is a growing sport. We were a team of 4 people (age 16-22), passionate about F1 motorsport. We started planning the series of events in October, the year 2021, right about a month before the Qatar Grand Prix, which was held on 21 November 2021. The planning consisted of finding a venue that can attain about 80 people, and still have space to be able to follow the covid guidelines at the time. Duties included finding a food caterer, a projector, projector screen, music/DJ, and a proper plan to execute the event. I was responsible for content writing pre-event and post-event, management during the event day, filming for social, and fixing all last-minute needs. During which I demonstrated the following LOs;
LO1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
I used to be great with writing, but over time I lost interest however, I rediscovered my strength in content writing. In addition, I am a better solo player, which is why working collaboratively came along to be another challenge but realizing that such an event could only be successful when there is a strong team, helped me develop my social skills. I developed my thinking skills since I had to come up with ideas for content and social. This project was a good opportunity to understand how everything is executed from planning to the actual event. We planned a series of events and executed them on three occasions, the Qatar Grand Prix, the Jeddah Grand Prix, and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for the 2021 season.
Lo2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
I was not a social person, and organizing such events means that you end up interacting with many kinds of people. And you don’t get a choice, you simply have to meet those people. I had to step out of my comfort zone for this, which then I saw as a negative thing. In spite of that, now when I look back, I see that as a positive thing. Because now I don’t avoid socializing as much as I used to. I was also able to strengthen my management and collaborative skills because of all the duties and roles I played.
Lo3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
This was a creative and productive process, which is why I had to be committed to it so I could strengthen my skills and execute my roles to the best of my abilities. Being an organized person, both mentally and practically, planning and initiating this CAS experience came naturally to me.
Lo5: SHowing perseverance and Commitment
Although I was handling the graphics it was something that others can give input to, so there was a difference of opinion at times, which was frustrating but still I learned to cope with it.
