Swappers stop was an event organized by the students of business management of grade 12. The main motive behind organizing this event wast to promote the theme of environmental sustainability through a unique concept. The idea behind this event was to exchange clothes or any items just like in a barter system. Any teacher or student could give in their belongings that aren’t of their use but are in a good condition in exchange for new items of their own choice. This system was often used by tribal people in the past as a form of money to exchange items both parties needed. This concept was adopted in Swappers stop where people could save a lot of money. The event was also accompanied by food stalls, mini-games, and music to make the event enthusiastic and enjoyable. I was in the core committee of the event playing the role of head of the collection department for teachers and admin staff.
LO1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
While being a part of the core committee, there were ample amounts of responsibilities after that I had to fulfill. The strength that I showcased during the event was to handle people with team coordination which is why I chose to become the head of the collection department by aiding my team to help collect items from teachers and students. On the other hand, my other strength was my management skills where I and my team had created an excel sheet and a group chat so that all communication could be conveyed seamlessly with a record of all items collected.
LO3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Our core committee was formed and I was given the responsibility to manage the teachers’ collection department. I was quite clear in my mind that in order to make this event a success all the things and duties will need to be organized, structured and well managed so that there are no interruptions or problems ahead of our planning. To do this me and my team, have created an excel sheet and a common group chat so that all communication could be conveyed seamlessly and efficiently with a record of all items collected to make things easier for us.
L4 : Show commitmentment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
In the beginning of the event, everyone was well enthusiastic towards the event. However, after the tedious work load along with our stuff going on, most of the students felt demotivated. This is where me and my team ensured that all our volunteers stayed productive and motivated by giving them breaks and making the task look more fun rather than boring. Before the event, we also visited all the classes in the DP wing to ensure that the items are collected properly where the team leaders would keep a record of all the items being collected along with daily updates of the progress. Overall, each and every student showed commitment to make this event a success.
LO6 : Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Swappers Stop- CAS Project
The main reason behind organizing this event was to promote the theme of sustainability in our school. It was seen that in our society a lot of things like t-shirts, pants, and accessories are being disposed of a lot frequently after using them for a few times less which impacts our environment indirectly. This creates more waste in our environment which ultimately results in harmful chemicals which are often dumped into rivers causing harm to aquatic life. Swappers stop was an initiative to reduce such waste by introducing the concept of exchanging items to help spread awareness of its consequences in our environment. Moreover, it was also seen that a lot of the decoration materials used for school events were unsustainable in nature which is why we used all of our decorative materials from used-up plastic bottles and clothes to spread the message of sustainability throughout the event.
Overall, leading this CAS project gave me the opportunity to demonstrate my leadership and management skills. I am grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to lead more such events ahead in the future.
