Swappers stop was a sustainability event organized by the Business Management and Economics team. Students and teachers were requested to bring items they no longer use or want in exchange for other things that have been collected on the day of the event. The purpose of this event was to practice sustainability and promote the reuse of products. I volunteered for this event and worked as a part of the decor team. Apart from this, I also worked on the day of the event, by volunteering at the clothing stall.
LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for growth. I have always loved the concept of reuse and thrifting in general, which is why I wanted to engage in this activity and volunteer for the Swapper’s stop. Through this experience, I was able to widen my knowledge and develop my skills in sustainability and business.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. Since the purpose of this event was to practice and promote sustainability, we obviously had to make use of sustainable resources and processes for the decoration of the event. This was a challenge for us as we had limited options and had to come up with the best possible ideas and alternatives. So, we utilized old newspapers, used worksheets, used water bottles and their caps, used, torn clothes, etc for the decoration.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. With many upcoming deadlines and assessments, it was a little difficult at the start to manage my time, however, I knew that I will benefit from this experience in the future and hence, decided to keep going.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. As part of the decor team, I had to work with many other students. We distributed our tasks and worked collaboratively which resulted in more efficiency. It made the task smooth, easy, and quick.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. This event helped in addressing the global issue of unsustainability. It can also be connected to Sustainable development goal 12- Responsible Consumption and Production. The event promoted sustainable lifestyles and resource efficiency.
