The Swapper Stop event was founded by economics and business teachers who believe in the concept of sustainability through a barter system in which money is replaced by credits. where you can earn credits based on the amount and quality of your donated items
My friend and I were chosen to be the event decor organizers prior to hosting the event. It was a little difficult for me since I had to fill a managerial role with a lot of responsibility, and there were ten individuals working with us as volunteers underneath me. With the volunteers in mind, I favored an open mind, or in business terms, a democratic management style, in which I let the volunteers participate in decision-making because it was an important event that required new and distinctive ideas.
It was tough to apply the notion at first since we mostly focused on “sustainable ideas” and “best out of waste,” where we had to hunt for all the resources that contribute to a sustainable environment. We planned to focus on reuse, reduction, and recycling in order to readily access all resources, which benefited us by choosing resources carefully.
The most crucial item before we started the process was to create and initiate the strategy; it was the most difficult task. We must ensure that all of the planning, resources and stall arrangements are completed a day before the event. We created a WhatsApp group and a Google space to facilitate simple communication with the teacher and volunteers, as well as a spoken meeting to continue the connection with the event department.
We gathered all of the ideas, resources, and stall arrangements to avoid any confusion and to make things easier for us. This event took held in August, and it included ongoing submissions and academic tests, as well as other events. I had to demonstrate commitment by starting early or using my free classes to complete all of the pending work allocated to me during this event. Even though I had an imminent test and personal chores, I demonstrated my leadership by complimenting the task allocated to me, and I still need to check for resource availability and volunteer responsibility on a regular basis.
In order to make this event a success, I also exhibited my ability to work together. Working together benefited the entire decor team because we were able to share and demonstrate our ideas. We also satisfied a few suggestions in order to choose the ideal one. However, there were numerous internal conflicts caused by opposing views and the failure to follow basic norms and procedures for the event, but we managed to work together to understand individuals’ strengths and weaknesses and execute the event. Everyone on the team participated enthusiastically and displayed their strength.
Finally, this event contributed significantly to worldwide relevance. Because of the quick expansion in fast fashion industry trends, the fashion items and goods available in a person’s wardrobe are not used appropriately and are left there for decades. They could be in good condition and still be valuable. As part of encouraging sustainability, we should trade things for other people’s unwanted goods to reduce waste, recycle resources, and repurpose goods for a better cause.
