As a part of my CAS activity experience, I volunteered to open a Face painting (hand painting as well) stall in the Swappers Stop event, which was held on 2nd August 2022. This experience taught me hands-on about business. The event as a whole was a success. And these are my learning outcomes;
1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
I came out of my comfort zone for this. And I had to be patient with the customers. When face painting, you can make a few errors and you may have to start the whole face art again, patience was necessary here.
2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
I have never done something like this, specifically, I have never owned a stall at any kind of event. Without having any experience, I had to experience challenges first-hand. And I developed social, communication, and self-management skills. Which will not only help me in school but in the future as well.
3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
I wasn’t provided much information, all I was told was that we had to face-paint using ‘earthy’ colors. And the paintings had to promote the idea of sustainability or nature. We planned the ideas on our own. Firstly, deciding upon a color palette, and the kind of designs we could/should do. Then getting those colors, ordering brushes/tumblers. Deciding the price based on the cost of resources and the customer’s price range. Then making a poster which we could stick for the people to see. And then practising the painting a couple of times before the event.
4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
Our stall experienced a huge crowd, and we had to remain patient with each one of them. It got chaotic a few times, but we remained perseverant and committed to breaking even and making profits.
L5-. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
This being a group event, we worked as a team. Since the team consisted of our BM classmates, the engagement was smooth and we ended up developing several skills.
L6-engagement with issues of global significance
This event focused on ‘sustainability’, the face painting designs were designed with respect to that issue. Hence, we ended up promoting the idea on a large scale,
