FSMUN 8.0 was a model of the United Nations hosted by Fountainhead school every year. This year was the first time the school hosted it physically in the past 3 years. I didn’t have much experience with the MUNs but I am always inclined toward marketing. I decided to participate in the organizing committee and lead the social media and marketing department. For an event to result in success, effort and audience are the two most important subjects. The audience was my part, I had to make sure I showcase the event in such a way that the audience is attracted to participating in it. Along with marketing the event I was also given the position of leading my department hence, I knew I had to divide the team’s work in such a way that everyone feels included. I also had to acknowledge the ideas that were put in by the entire team. Moreover, since the subject of MUN is sensitive I had to make sure I approved every post/technique of marketing through the core committee. Overall, it was a journey completely different from what I have experienced and I stepped out of my comfort zone to make it a success.
I knew that my strength was graphic designing but I also knew that my weakness was communication. To balance everything out I developed my communication skills along with my critical thinking to think out of the box for content. I feel it’s very important to know your strengths and weaknesses when you work in a team-based environment because that’s how we can balance each other and work together. For example, I knew my video editing skills aren’t as professional as my photo editing skills so accordingly I divided the roles of the team members who were better at it than me. Working on my communication skills would benefit me in every field while growing up.
I began with strategizing a mood board for the event. We made different videos, reels, posters, templates and other techniques. Once that was approved, we reached out to other schools to promote the event and then people were attracted to the posts. I’m glad I had the chance to lead a department for FSMUN 8.0
