I started a small business that sells jewelry with my friend, even though I have been fairly creative all my life, my friend and I weren’t exactly skilled enough in that sector. So with the help of online tutorials and continuous practice we honed our skills and made a social media account to advertise and create a platform where we got multiple orders.
LO2 | Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process |
I faced multiple challenges in the establishing of this new venture, one of them being resourcing and managing finances, so I created a document where every expense and profits were added. Throughout this process, I learned advertising, marketing, and craft skills to make the jewelry.
LO3 | Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience |
To plan and figure out details about starting Astraea, we used a variety of tools such as Notion, Google docs to keep track of our orders and expenses. We used Canva and Procreate Art to design our logo and come up with designs and inspiration for our packaging. For posts, we planned about uploads and used Instagram for the same. We used real-life applications of what my peer had learned in Business Management classes and I learned from her too.
LO4 | Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences |
Making each order and packing them can be very time taxing, especially as a DP student. Sometimes it got very hard to take out time from deadlines and submissions but I tried my best and showed commitment when we finally got the time to make all the orders.
LO5 | Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively |
Working as a team and with collaboration was very insightful as we have separate skills that helped us learn a lot from each other. We worked on what we knew best and our weaknesses to overcome any hurdles. And as with most collaborative projects, we had conflicts as to what the next step should be but we overcame that with healthy communication to do what was best for our development and a client’s satisfaction.
