Farewells are the most memorable day for anyone, and that is what we as a team wanted the batch of 2022 to feel. In any event, what makes it the most memorable are its decorations, and how the event is presented, so I was a part of the decorations team in the farewell of the batch of 2022.
LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
This experience helped me understand the innovation side of me and helped me understand the importance of decorations of an event, and pushed me to think of decorations that talk to the viewer about their memories, and the purpose of the event and make it the most memorable day for them. This experience helped me identify my own strength to think creatively to finalize the decorations which would go on the day of the event. This event made me more aware of me somewhere lacking behind in communicating about the decorations in the team, which led to differences in opinions.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
This experience was quite challenging enough as we had a large team to work with. And what got more challenging was to finalize upon the decorations, first within the team, then approaching the higher authorities for permissions as well, thereafter managing the resources needed for the event, and making changes in the decorations if the resources aren’t available, and going through the whole cycle again. Though it was hard to get through this challenge, we managed to stay calm enough and went with the flow to make the event successful and memorable. Along with that the event made me develop creative thinking and communication skills as it was extensively used throughout the process.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
It was quite hard to initiate the whole process and be organized throughout, yet we managed to do that because of effective communications and had made records of every action taken in a google sheet so that we can stay organized throughout and also encouraged to do work. The planning stage of the decorations was quite hectic and time-consuming as it involved different protocols to be followed. Seeing the benefits, now I feel initiating and planning events or experiences could go with ease if I reflect upon the mistakes done in this event.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Throughout the event, there were several protocols to be followed and several restrictions such as the usage of resources, which made it really hard to be committed, but the whole team stayed committed to this event and kept giving inputs whenever possible. In addition to that, communication with such a huge team doesn’t get any harder, as one has to respect others’ opinions and get to a conclusion, which took more time than we had expected, which might have discouraged us a bit but we all stayed till the last and conducted a successful event.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working with a huge team never is easy for anyone, because every brain in the team has different mindsets, different opinions, different skills, which had led to a difference of opinions between the decorations team in the farewell, but by respecting one’s opinions and being open-minded enough to listen to other, we tried to tackle the hurdle.
Overall, what showed up at the end of the experience was our commitment to the event and our goal to communicate and transfer memories through each and every piece of decor we created. In this experience, I developed my thinking and social skills to think creatively and work collaboratively with a team.
