This was my first beach clean up in a couple of years. Beach clean-ups are one of the interesting services because not only the humans will benefit, but the marine life also. We went to dumas beach for this service. We visited the beach for clean-up twice a month. Beach clean-ups was a huge task for us because the waste thrown in the beach used to stink a lot, there were many flies and insects near the waste. But we felt satisfied after seeing the amount of waste we picked up on the beach.
LO 6, Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. The issue here is that people who visit the beach are not throwing waste in a proper place and the beach is filled up with waste which affects humans as well as marine life. It is globally important because, mostly in every city of the world there is a beach and people go to beach for enjoyment and entertainment but side by side they are littering the beach and making the appearance of the beach worse. Participating in beach clean up encouraged me to pay more attention to any action that could pollute my area and the atmosphere. Marine life is greatly affected by the cleanliness of a beach, and it is important to realize this. This service also includes on Sustainable development goal 14 which is “life below water,” the main reason for cleaning beach is to save the marine life from toxins and plastic waste.
LO7, Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions. The ethical issue involved here is the global pandemic, It was risky for us to go in public places and we were not vaccinated at that time so there was a chance to be exposed to the virus. But we followed the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines so that the chances of getting virus would be less, sanitizing our selves and using gloves to pick up the waste, wearing mask for the whole time. Beach clean-ups really open my mind to seeing how one little piece of trash that I leave on the ground can really impact the surroundings and atmosphere.
Learner profile attributes developed in this activity was caring. people on the beach looked inspired by our initiative and would often ask us questions about what we were doing and what school we were studying at. This activity will benefit others because the gases that get released from this waste will affect the people so, cleaning it will benefit us.
