I am very athletic and I love to play different sports. Well, frisbee is one of them. I have been playing frisbee for the past 2-3 years. I have been playing this sport for fun and trying to improve my skills and fitness. I wanted to play in tournaments to improve my game, build coordination and look for healthy competition. I got an opportunity to play in a tournament organized by a frisbee group in surat. Playing in schools and playing in tournaments is not the same as the level and the intensity of the game increases. We have many players in one team and getting into the starting squad is challenging.
LO 1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I identified my strengths and weaknesses in the training. One of my biggest strengths is my fitness. I have good endurance, I don’t get tired easily so I use my strength in game to score a point as well as defend. I am good at catching, which helps me to score points for my team. Due to my height advantage, I can jump high. One of my weaknesses is throwing the frisbee, it’s not that accurate sometimes. I have identified and choose to play in the deep area where there is less throwing and more catching. I used my strength in the game. It is very important to know our strengths and weaknesses as in the game we need to play according to our strengths and try to improve our weaknesses in training sessions.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Wherever you go in any tournament, you have to develop new skills which can help you in the game. It was very challenging for me to throw the disk to my teammates which were very far away. I had to practice it everyday to improve and develop that skill. The reason it was challenging was from the start I was just catching in the deep area but if we go to any tournament then we have to learn throwing. Execution is very much important and practice helps to execute the skill in the game. I overcome these challenges by practicing each and every day at different distances. Everyday I got better.
LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Frisbee is a team sport, we have to collaborate with our team members on and off the field. In the game, communicating to our team members, building strategies and motivating them when we’re losing. It is very much important that we play as a team. I am generally the one who takes the responsibility of the team, guides the team. Leadership is very much important in a team. There has to be one leader in the team who will communicate, tell our weakness and fight for the game. We really have to understand our team player game and play accordingly. Teamwork is very much important as every player has different strengths and weaknesses. Playing according to the strength and weakness of our team player is the key to winning.
LO 7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
I need to consider the ethics in sports and actions. Frisbee is a sport where there is no referee or no one to take any action against foul play. Both the team players have to communicate if there is a foul. Over here ethics plays an important role as we need to be honest with our opponent and if we have done a foul then we have to agree and be ready to face consequences. I have to take care of my actions and don’t play rough, there is no benefit of playing rough. Before this, I didn’t play with ethics. If I do a foul then I wouldn’t agree and after some time there would be “contest” which means the foul will be ignored and the player having the disk before the foul will get it. It’s not a right thing. My captain told me and made me understand the ethics. I changed my game and I played honestly in the tournament.
Lastly, there are many learner profiles which I developed during my CAS experience. One of them is a communicator as on the field I was constantly communicating with my team members, giving them instructions, motivating them. I also developed Reflective as after every game we had to reflect on our game and discuss with the team members where we went wrong and where we can improve in the next game. We achieved success as we won the tournament. It made me feel very proud of myself and all the hard work and challenges that I overcame are worth it.
