2021 has been full of surprises, and I did not know I had this new liking towards reading. But this year, I started reading a lot because of certain books that were recommended by my friends. Before Christmas, I was discussing about a book to 2 of my friends, when I had an idea that came to my mind. The book thief event where readers give us their book and we will wrap them and put them up on our stall on a particular day where they can come and pick up any other book. The main idea of this was to borrow a book anonymously for a month and it will hand delivered and received by me and my team. We assigned each book with an individual code that determined the identity of the owner’s book, so that when they come to pick a pick they wouldn’t have to pick their own.
I was able to reflect on organising and collaboration skills. Me and my team worked very hard to organise and wrap the books, since these were wrapped up it was very hard for us to identify the books. So we came up with various solutions and worked through every problem to make this event successful. We made sure that our stall was grabbing the audience’s attention through the decor and the way we placed our books. We had to organise a proper sheet where we had all the receiver’s name with the book they have ordered. Through collaboration with my team and having good communication skills to bring our audience’s attention this event was made successful.
My final remarks from this project were that without collaboration with my team, I wouldn’t have been able to make the event successful. We got a lot of attention from our audience and we did not expect it as much but it did surprise all of us. Due to the increasing amount of book givers we had to work more hard in a limited amount of time, which made us work upon our time management skills as well. Overall, I was able to work on a lot of skills with the help of my team and through the results of our first time doing this, we are also willing to this annually every year and keep the legacy going.
L1.Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Being a book worm, I have a very significant connection with books. I used this in order to create an event that could help people become readers with curiosity. The books are shared anonymously amongst the participants leading them to greater reading opportunities. I would take this as a growth and development as I myself took part in the event and found myself into reading a different genre than my normal taste.
L3. Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Me and my team used organising, collaborating and creativity skills in order to put this event together. Although there were some repercussions that made the organising part a little tricky because of the large number of people that took part, we were still committed and finished our planning and organising of the event on time.
L5. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
I was able to demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively with my team. Using these various skills we were able to plan and organise things on time. We also majorly used time management skills, while collecting and wrapping the books on time.
