Music has always been something I have enjoyed doing and listening to since I was a kid. The only thing that would make me feel fulfilled was when I was playing my guitar and singing. But at the same time, the only thing I have been afraid of since my childhood was performing.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
Me and 4 students from the school were asked to perform for the 75th Independence Day of India in the school. I hadn’t really performed with a band before, and that too with people I did not know and this was a whole new experience for me. I have always had stage fright and hence I have not performed in school very often hence CAS provided me with the opportunity to step out of my shell and my comfort zone to perform and fight my stage fright. This whole experience helped me identify how well I work with a group of people who I do not know. It also helped me understand my capability to sing and perform live for an important event. I think it is very important for one to know about their strengths and weaknesses in areas which they are interested in, it helps figure out if it is something that you can pursue or it is just an interest.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I did notice that even though I did practice with the band with whatever free time I got but at the day of the performance I was nervous and some of the nerves were audible in my final performance, and as my performance, due to covid was streamed live instead of it being in front of a live audience, it made me less nervous and gave me a little more confidence. And going ahead, I would like to work on my nervousness and my confidence, because in performing confidence is everything and having confidence is very important, it can change the whole game around.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
one of my greatest weaknesses throughout the years has been being able to commit to things and going through with it. So, as I was hesitant at first when I was asked if I could perform, I was thinking about not doing it but then my family and friends motivated me to take this step, and hence I did go through with it. There were parts where I could not initially hit some high notes but as we went through practice sessions I started easing up and started hitting the notes. The practice sessions were tough at the beginning as I did not know the other people who I was going to play with but as the days went up it got easier and it also got easier for me to go through with my commitment.
However, there were some technical difficulties on the day of the performance which did bring my morale down, our voices were not clear in the recording, the mic was not working properly. This was a new learning experience for me, to understand that there are such technical difficulties in reality and in the business, and I can either than being sad about it I should learn from it. To sum it all up this was a fruitful experience, where I learned many new things about my interest field and where I could explore my strengths and weaknesses.
