During my summer vacation, I decided to go to summer trek to DEO TIBBA BASE CAMP. almost 135000 above sea level. The trek was very much difficult to climb. I took the initiate to be the group leader for 32 people. The trek was organized by adventure world, but the flight bookings, hotel bookings and other all communication to all their parent was done by them. Trek was one of the most memorable trip in my entire life with many learning and happy memories.
LO 1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Communication and leadership skills are 2 skills which I am good at. I took the initiative to organize the trip. My fitness is also very good due to my athletic activities. I showed leadership skills and pushed everyone during the trek to reach to the summit. I also had to communicate with the group guide about the accommodation, foods preparation, etc. It was a challenging task to do. However, using my skills and strength. I managed to do it. It also helped to grow from an student to a trip organizer. I had to be aware of every small small things like where to go, which areas are safe, etc. It really helped me to improve my leadership and communication skills.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills.
There were many challenges during the trek. My shoes torned apart. I had no other option and had to use my mind and came up with a short term solution by joining it with a thread. It wasn’t helping much. The shoes lost their grip and I also injured myself during the trek. It was really difficult. The temperature went into negative. It was very much challenging for me to develop the skill of being independent and helpful. I also gave up my jackets to help my friends who had a fever. There were many challenges during the trek. However, with the help of my friends and guide. I managed to surpass the challenges.
LO3- initiate and plan a CAS experience
It was my idea to go on a trek. I proposed the idea to all my friends. I initiate the plan of trek and plan all the thing required such as a travel guide, hotels, flights, transport and everything. This took a lot of efforts to convince everyone to come to trek and arrange everything so everyone can be comfortable.
LO4 – commitment to and perseverance
The trek was of 6 days. Every night, my legs were swollen, I also had a injury in my hand. I had a option to go down to the base, but I chose to stay and complete the trek. Even after many difficulties and challenges. I showed commitment to the guide and all my friends that I will complete the whole trek. I was perseverance as even after problems and difficulties. I stick to my plan and achieved my goal, reach the top.
LO7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
I did not have cellphones or any other device. This gave me the opportunity to live in the present and be more connected with my surroundings. I was able to actually reconsider my actions and the effect it has. When we would leave any campsite I would be careful to pick up the trash and keep the surroundings clean so that the beauty of the mountains could stay intact. Be present at every campsite, dinner time, be ready with the group. For an example, waking early so I can get ready be present at the time.
Overall, Trek was amazing, filled with many memories and challenges. The difficulties will make the trek even more memorable. To reach the top and live in nature was really one of the best things, I’ve ever felt. The views of the valley were also breathtaking.
