Learning how to cook food is one of the most essential survival skills that everyone should possess. It makes you independent and helps you understand world cultures, customs, and flavors. Cooking also makes you understand important life skills like eating healthy, cleaning, and budgeting your money since cooking is less expensive than eating at restaurants. During this CAS experience, I learned how to cook certain dishes of various cuisines and improvise my cooking style and method.
LO2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process)
Cooking certain dishes is not easy and requires time and dedication. For example, one must be careful about the number and quantity of ingredients that must be added to the dish and the amount of time the dish needs to be heated. If these factors are not taken care of then the food might get spoiled. Critical thinking skills must be put to work here to be able to design how these factors must be addressed. Cooking food is like performing a lab experiment, wherein one must take precautions and reduce the amount of waste while obtaining desired results.
LO3 (Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience)
Planning this CAS experience requires organizational skills and time management. I had to plan on what all ingredients and in what quantities would be required in order to create the dish so as to avoid any shortage while making. Also, time management needs to be implemented so that cooking is done in a short period of time. Optimization needs to be done so as to use time effectively while not hindering the quality of the food.
LO4 (Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences)
Making your own food requires commitment and perseverance. One must be ready to make food at any time of the day or in any mood to satisfy hunger. Similarly, making food is also tiring since it requires constant monitoring and physical involvement. It is also time-consuming and can make you occupied.
In conclusion, this experience helped me enhance and develop specific learner profiles such as balanced and thinker. These were demonstrated while the duration of the experience. This was a fascinating experience.
