CAS – Trekking

Going on a trek is a mesmerizing experience filled with breathtaking landscapes and tranquillity. Trekking detaches you from your urban life and reconnects you to nature, away from all the hustle and bustle, making it an adventure that everyone must embark on. I recently went on a trek with my friends to Kuari Pass, located in the state of Uttarakhand, India, wherein I learned a lot of things and created fond memories that shall remain with me forever. Roaming the wilderness broadens your horizons and expands your potential in many ways due to your separation from your comfort zone.

LO2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process)

One key factor which is required in trekking is endurance. Since I had minimal experience of trekking, I took an initiative to develop my endurance. Running 5km in under 35mins or cycling for 18km in under one hour, were some of the challenges that were met in order for me to go on a trek successfully. Similarly, my organizational skills were also developed while I packed for my trek. The challenge over here was to reduce the amount of luggage while fulfilling the needs. Lastly, research skills were also enhanced while deciding on an appropriate trek in the season.

LO4 (Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences)

During a trek, commitment and perseverance are always required. One must wake up early in the morning and be willing to trek three to eleven kilometers to ascend or descend. Also, fluctuations in weather must also not affect the progress of the trail unless extreme conditions put trekkers at risk.

LO5 (Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively)

Collaboration is essential when it comes to trekking, a group of trekkers must communicate with each other in order to navigate and monitor the health or state of mind of every individual in the group. Working collaboratively results in increased motivation and the ability to go beyond the threshold. Similarly, when faced with a problem, trekking in a group may result in faster problem-solving and decision-making.

In conclusion, Trekking is rewarding, it not only provides you with accomplishment but also creates ever-lasting memories. This CAS experience also developed specific learner profiles such as risktaker and communicator.
