For our summer vacation we were planning to go for a trek. Thats when I stepped up to plan the trek to manali. I convinced all of my friends to join me on this trek. We had planned a small trek to the Deo Tibba Base Camp. We gained an altitude of 13500ft above sea level. As an adventure junkie myself, I was really pumped. The main concern of this trip was planning the entire thing and making the trip interesting so that more people would join us. Around 30 people came on this trip which was planned by me and my few friends.
LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Activities involving risk and adventure is what I like but I prefer to be in my own comfort space. My strengths in this experience were planning and communication. To make sure that this trip would only be about myself and socialising with my friends we had decided to leave out phones behind for the trek. This was an opportunity to develop my social skills and work on my fitness in the trek.
LO 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
We had to set up our tents and prepare our own meals every day. We were a group of 30 friends that had to cooperate, share responsibilities, and complete particular duties. A few people who were good cooks prepared meals for everyone, and the others helped gather wood for nighttime fires and pitch tents for everyone. It would be extremely difficult for anyone to complete the task alone without a group. The entire trek is cooperatively undertaken, and each task is completed by the group.
LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The quality of natural soil is rapidly deteriorating. It is due to human activities like pollution that are causing such environmental concerns. We cleaned the campgrounds we found while there to make up for a few mistakes. Every day following our hike, we arrived at our campsites at 2 p.m. After a little break, we ate a few snacks and set aside some time to offer our services. By creating a more sustainable and friendly environment, this supports the 13th SDG of combating climate change.
LO 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Since we could not carry any additional weight while hiking up the mountains, we tied the rubbish bags to a tree as we collected trash from every campground. We assembled all of the waste on the first camp and dumped it appropriately, but we followed the same route when we came back. This, in my opinion, does not violate any moral or ethical principles; rather, it aligns with our efforts to improve a society or community.
