Swapper’s stop was an event organized by the Business Management and Economics team. The event raised awareness about the growing mass-production industry, and while making profits and increasing sales might be a part of an organization’s objectives, it is also important for a firm to realize their corporate social responsibility, and not just firms, but also us as consumers.
LO 1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: I have always had a knack for decor and styling, hence I volunteered to be a part of the decor team and I was a useful input when it came to pitching ideas and lending a helping hand. It also made my collaborative skills stronger, working with a new set of people. It was overall a memorable experience for me as I got to make new friends while learning things about event management and logistics.
LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: Because the event revolved around sustainability, it was important for us to reuse materials for decor as much as we could, otherwise it would have been hypocritical of us to host this event.
LO 3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience: It was a bit difficult for us to plan and execute this event because there were a lot of people who had participated. Hence, to make sure that the event was successful, we kept track of the spreadsheet shared with us. Referring to the well-managed spreadsheet we were able to meet our teacher’s expectations and they were able to track our progress.
LO 6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance: It was an event that made us students realize the negative side of our consumption patterns, the fast fashion industry, and how we should try to recycle and reuse things to reduce waste and head towards a sustainable planet.
LO 7 Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions: the ethics of choices and actions that we make every day affect others and this initiative can help influence people around us to break the over-consumption pattern and build new ones that are more sustainable in the long run for our planet.
