In Surat city there is a community of football being developed. There is a team uplifting football culture in the city named as “Surat City United” under which there is a women’s sub team encouraging women to play football and trying to build a football culture in Surat city. They have their group named “She united”. They had organised a tournament where in non- players and players could team up and play football. This event happened on 16th, 17th and 18th July.
I participated in this tournament and I had the position of a goalkeeper in my team. Before the tournament there were practice sessions which I attended to know the basics of football and develop some goalkeeping skills. I did try playing in different positions but goalkeeping was more like my thing as I have been playing basketball for almost four years and I do have good control over my hand compared to my control over my foot. My team played three days of the tournament and all were strangers and I had never seen them play. In the three practise sessions I definitely learned a lot from them, the rules and regulations and how to have a good grip on the ball. I did perform well during the matches and my team didn’t lose a single match. We reached the finals and in the finals the score was 3-0. We were the winners of the tournament.
We definitely had good coordination and a good spirit maintained in our team. Off the ground we used to cheer and appreciate each other and had a positive vibe in our team. By participating in this tournament I got to explore a new sport and got to know my strengths and weaknesses and now I further look forward to participating in more tournaments 🙂
