Learning Chess

L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth, L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills,L4-commitment to and perseverance

I participated in a chess club as part of my International Baccalaureate (IB) Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) program. Through this experience, I learned the importance of strategy and critical thinking in both chess and life. Chess is one of the most challenging games to train your mind,I have learnt chess in an institute of more than a year and have played official tournaments.I planned to play chess regularly and improve my official rating from 900 to 1100.I was successfully able to reach 1100 in the span of 3 months by playing 1 match everyday.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned from playing chess is the importance of planning ahead. In chess, every move you make has a consequence and it’s essential to consider all potential outcomes before making a decision. This skill can be applied to real-life situations as well, such as in decision making and problem solving.

Additionally, chess taught me the importance of being adaptable and flexible. In a game of chess, you must be able to adjust your strategy based on your opponent’s moves. Similarly, in life, it’s important to be able to adapt to changes and think on your feet. I also learned the importance of perseverance through chess. The game can be mentally taxing and it’s easy to become frustrated, but it’s important to keep pushing through and not give up. This is a valuable lesson for any aspect of life, as it’s important to not give up in the face of challenges.

Overall, participating in the chess club as part of my CAS program was a valuable experience. It taught me valuable skills and lessons that I can apply to other areas of my life. I would highly recommend chess to anyone looking to improve their strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
