Discruption :

This experience was organised by Unitree. The organisation helps children affected by down syndrome in different was from helping them socialize to giving them a new experience. They gathered volunteers on the festival of Garba to teach different variations of Garba a traditional festival that’s celebrated throughout Gujarat. This will be a whole new experience for them, as most of them haven’t attended or participated in the famous festival of Garba that is celebrated in Gujarat every year. We helped them by teaching them the traditional dance and then on the final 3 days dancing with them

LO’s

L1 ( Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth )

Dancing has never been something I was good at, on the other had I had excellent communication skills I was able to befriend anyone and have a good conversation with them. Reviewing this I knew I could play a crucial role as a volunteer in this event. Working on my weakness which was dance, I would learn the traditional dance of Garba and with my profound communication skills Ill easily be able to teach other people. I learnt skills like dancing, identify my strengths and weakness, worked on the necessary ones and implied them in this experience.

L2 ( Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process )

Dance is something I was never good at and on the other hand teaching others wasn’t my specialty either. In this event we were gathered to teach the children affected by down syndrome, because both dancing and teaching was something I wasn’t good at, while the children affected by down syndrome face problem learning it quick. This became my challenge, with the limited time we had we perfected our dance form, and then our only focus was to teach them. This was the first time some of us were teaching dancing, with this and time we had we overcome the challenge.

L3 ( Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience )

All our friends have always planned the festival of Garba together, to go in a club which is hosting for the festival of Garba. This time we had changed plans, as we learnt that Unitree is providing the opportunity we changed our plans so that we could give other children who face problems due to down syndrome, a opportunity to celebrate this festival with us. We knew we couldn’t go there without a plan, so our whole group signed up for this event and planned out everything from decor to music to invitations.

L5 ( Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively )

Garba is a dance form performed on the festival of Navratri, there are different variations to it and it can be performed in groups. From 4 to the whole ground full of people in one single circle. The key to a proper Garba dance is to be synchronized and with proper movement on the beats. With so many people it is very important for each one of the person to be synchronized as people collide if the dance in different paces.

L6 ( Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance )

Down syndrome is a global issue, this is a genetic disorder that no one has control of nor a solution to the problem. The people affected by this have a very different life, not only because of the symptoms of down syndrome but also how other people treat them. Even tho its a global issue no one thinks its significant which is why they don’t give it importance unlike other diseases or disorders.

L7 ( Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions )

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes facial abnormalities, intellectual disability, and developmental delays in children. Affected children already face challenges in their daily lives, ranging from early developmental stages to unequal treatment from their peers. People who are forced to live in these conditions do not have a choice, thus they should not be treated differently. Because we are all ordinary humans, we are all the same, and some people believe that because they are affected by something that isn’t widely known, it isn’t essential to our society. As a result, I’m not going to treat them any differently than the others.
