Being a part of organizing commitee in the FSMUN

FSMUN is an event which is organized every year by the school. This year I was part of the Organizing committee of the FSMUN and the resource head of the FSMUN. My duties involved arranging resources for the delegates of the MUN, the Chairs and CO-Chairs of the committee. Since we were working on a tight budget finding resources was a difficult task.

LO1–Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth,

  • I always knew dealing with people and working collaboratively is my strength. When I became a part of the committee I asked my superiors to offer me a role which involved managing resources and communicating with people. During the event I was part of different committies. The work inolved everything what the chairs and co-chairs wanted such as resources, passing chits in the committies etc.

LO 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

  • In organizing the FSMUN there are various challenges which I faced. Firstly ordering resources for delegates, finding a vendor who would sell resources at a cheap price, making a sample delegate kit and getting it approved, printing stickers of FSMUN etc. I learnt important skills such as division of work, collaboration and making group decisions. There were many times when resources were not available or too expensive talking to different vendors and dealing with people helped me develop my communication skills.

LO3- Initiate and plan a CAS experience

  • When I became a part of the organizing comittee I started communicating with my superiors and started planning the event. Organzing all the activities as well as the schedule and the resources in a spreadsheet helped me organize the event so that it functions smoothly.

LO4-commitment to and perseverance

In this experience commitment and persevereance was required as we had to work day and night to make this event a success. A lot of planning was involved and the organzing comitte had to work beyond their boundaries to make this event successful.

LO5–Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

  • This was a team event the entire organizing committee was working together to make this event a success. I demonstrated social skills, by being paying an active leadership role, and working collaboratively as a team. The FSMUN organizing comitte consisted of 20 people with work evenly distributed among the members. All the members worked collaboratively, pitched in new ideas and overall contributing to make the event a sucess. Throughout the process I worked with new people and made new friends. In the process I developed communication skills while working with the team as well as on the day of event, guiding delegates and managing comitte sessions. Overall this experience gave me an experience about how to work as team to make an event a sucess.

LO6-engagement with issues of global significance

The collection and production of waste are the worldwide issues taken into consideration here. We used old worksheets as envelopes for the invitations and recycled supplies from the school for the decorations in order to make this event sustainable and waste-free.

LO7–Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

This was the last FSMUN which our grade was gonna host. We organized this event to give the delegates and participants and idea about how the model united nations work. Giving them a basic idea of how the UN works. How it follows a code of conduct. It was wonderful to see how the delegates enjoyed the event in the socials as well as the comitte sessions. I’m so glad we did it. I’ll always treasure this day and recall the feeling of success it gave me.
