Word Wise by Monsoon Musings (Creativity)

Word Wise by Monsoon Musings is a literary event conducted each year by the Fountainhead school. This literary event is a platform for participants to recite and present their literary pieces, the motive behind conducting the event is to inspire young writers and teachers and encourage them to share a few of their ingenious art pieces in front of a large audience and open a window to new creative minds with new stories to share. This is the event that explores the creative side of their persona. Hence as an individual interested in literature, I was interested in volunteering for organizing the event as a part of the logistics team.

Learning Outcomes Achieved:

L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

As this being the first event that I organized, it was really challenging for me to work collaboratively with my team and members and had little to no idea on how to plan and execute the decor. The major issue faced by us was completing the decor on time, we had really short time to prepare the decorations. Along with that due to lack of experience I had difficulty in organizing time for contrasting sectors , such as requesting approval from higher authorities along with altering decorations and working accordingly to the changes pertaining during the experience. But as the time passed the calm composure and early inns in the mornings along with working hard and quick in free slots helped us cope up with the issues and derive solutions for the same. It was a really long, strenuous and time consuming process. But facing challenges aided me in gaining time management and communication skills along with creative skills.

L3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience

In order for the event to go as planned with no distribution, we had to initiate a plan and create a timeline to ensure that each component of the event was running smoothly. Hence we created a checklist to follow to verify that each task assigned to each member is being performed on time and the event does not lack any criteria.

L5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Regardless of a low budget and less time, we as a team worked collaboratively to progress the event into a successful experience for the school. We identified the strengths and weaknesses of every member of the team and made the best use of the skills present with us. For example, I had the skill of calligraphy so all the titles, like the Word Wise and creating bookmarks as a gift to the participants was initiated by me, alongside other members were assigned different tasks as per their capability. We were also divided into 2 main groups, a logistics and literary team as per to work in the best possible manner without any stress and workload. One team managed the  communications with higher authorities and the other team focused on the aesthetics and structure of the event. Hence working in a team allowed the event to proceed smoothly.

L7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

One of the main aims of the event was to hold sustainable events by reusing the previous school materials already available and reusing and recycling the materials and even if we create any banners by utilizing new resources we made sure that it can be used further for other events. Hence our actions and choices were ethical by making use of already existing decoration and minimizing the waste made during the event.

The purpose of selecting this participation as one of my CAS experiences is due to my interest in literature and writing. I wanted to explore contrasting sides of literature and I was interested in inspiring writers to speak up and recite their pieces. It also assisted me in showing the creative side of me by organizing the event.

The learner profile attributes that I will be developing as a result of this CAS experience are communicators, open-minded and balanced. This was catered as a result of working collaboratively in a team to organize a successful event, I was open-minded to everyone’s ideas in the group and communicated my ideas and perspectives to other members of the organizing committee. Balanced here was achieved as an aggregate of managing my studies along with this event.
