International Peace MUN is a conference articulating in a manner representing the United nation’s general assembly , where MUN stands for Modern United Nations. International Peace MUN is a formal debate competition complying with formal discussions on various agenda of world’s current affairs. During a MUN a delegate enacts as a representative of a country, organization, or leader, and through the event the delegate must conjoins hands with other delegates around the world to resolve a specific issue . A MUN teaches participants numerous skills like research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills and assists in empowering young people’s minds. There are several committees that an individual can participate in and these committees enthrall the delegate’s interest.
As an individual I was interested in participating and wanted to get a more closure to the real world affairs, hence I chose to participate in IPMUN. This experience helped me to improve my research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills. Participating in debate competitions helps me build up my profile for the future and acts as a self-growth tool. I participated in the United Nation Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) committee as a delegate of Germany. The agenda for the same was Long term Sustainability for Outer Space Affairs.
L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills
The main challenges that I faced during the conference was speaking confidently, due to the lack of exposure and stage fright I wasn’t able to communicate efficiently on the first day. One of the chief challenges that I faced was that due to issues occurring in placements, I was switched into a different committee just before two days of event and had limited time to research and be prepared with the content and points to place during the conference. Hence during the event it was quite tough and timid for me to participate, also due to the lack of exposure to such events. But with gaining experience, I was able to overcome my weakness and had a path to develop my communication skills.
L5-. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working collaboratively with other delegates helped me in enhancing my critical thinking, decision making skills and emphasized deeply on the ethical choices of contrasting subjective topics and concepts on the outer space activities. The chief benefit of working concertedly along with other delegates was it enhanced my communication and debating skills. It assisted me in empowering my speaking skills and profoundly influenced other delegates on my view about my decision or point placed further. Overall as a committee we experienced a professional and empirical real life experience.
L6-Engagement with issues of global significance,
The conference focused mainly on three primary concepts in relation to sustainability for outer space activities, which included ‘space debris’, ‘emission’ and ‘ASAT weapons’. We prospected into the repercussions of the outer space activities on the external space environment and gave consensus on each country’s actions for improving or making the outer space more detrimental. The foremost focus of the global issue here was the sustainability of the outer space activities on humanity and the space. We explored how excessive space debris can be a catastrophic threat to humanity and exploit future space activities exploration and the collisions of space debris can form kessler syndrome that can cascade into a dangerous belt or cloud of congestion and extinct the few planets from universe.The conference enlightens young minds about the long-term repercussions of people’s actions on the human kind and threats to the whole universe.
The learner profile attributes that I developed as a result of this CAS experience are knowledgeable, communicators, open-minded, inquirers, risk takers, thinkers and principles. These all were demonstrated throughout the process.
