108 rounds of Surya-namaskar (CAS experience 1)-Riya Bajaj

Suryanamaskar is also known as the sun salutation. It’s a sequence of 12 yoga asana and that is considered as 1 round of the Suryanamaskar. It involves all the body part’s movement and coordination. It helps improve blood circulation, the flexibility of the spine, cardiorespiratory functions are improved, etc. With playing basketball I had a certain fitness level . Regular practice of 2 months of doing yoga and including a gradual increase in the number of Suryanamaskar had increased my capacity for the day of doing 108 rounds of Suryanamaskar. All of this was done under trainer Mrs. Keyuri Jain and it helped me improve my digestion, solve the problem of sleep. The idea of doing Suryanamaskar was totally new to me.

Learning outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Strengthsweakness
Flexibility: It was observed during the activity that postures performed by me were correct due to flexibility. It’s easier for a flexible body to perform Surya namaskar it increases speed and makes it faster
Grasping power: I had good grasping power so the online mode of learning was difficult initially cause it was new but when days passed it made things easier for me to grasp things.
Endurance: Before joining the Yoga class I had endurance but not enough for 108 rounds of Surya namaskar so after the practice and this day the capability has increased. This will help improve my basketball game as well which is advantageous. But there is still scope of improvement for endurance
Strength: I witnessed I did not have core strength but doing planks, ab workouts was a small step of improvement shown which helped me for my postures and becoming fit

Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing a new skill

The challenge faced was doing every weekday one hour practice will definitely improve the body endurance, strength but in two months of practice doing 108 rounds of Surya namaskar was difficult. Physical workout is a must and I did not have it before July so at the end of August doing 108 rounds of complete Surya namaskar became challenging for me. This was the first time I was doing this. To overcome this challenge I thought of keeping nuts beside me in order if I feel unconscious or lack energy I could munch it. Honestly, with the motivation, I just required 2 breaks after the 50th round and one after the 75th round. Also thinking that I can do it was the main key that made me actually do it. Completion of this challenge makes me feel great. One of the accomplishments that I would tell somebody about when asked about the accomplishment. The new skill I learned is thinking you can do it regardless of how difficult a task it is and secondly taking up challenges-being a risktaker. These skills will help me further in life to be a risk-taker and not deny challenges and fight for them. Learning new skills is very important as it helps individual gets better as a person and makes them easy to deal with life problem ahead.

Learning outcome 4:commitment to and perseverance
I am the type of lazy person I am not into much physical activity. So showing commitment to contributing 1 hour of your day for the physical activity was necessary and since the mode of doing it was online so doing one hour efficiently was also difficult and so being perseverance and commitment both were important for me. Now that I have completed the activity it feels great for showing commitment and taking out time for physical activity and making the day 31 august worth remembering. By commitment, I mean dedication for doing it was required for completing the activity. For me commitment to such physical activity is difficult initially but once I see improvement naturally commitment is shown.

All in all, in this experience I developed a Risk-taker of doing 108 rounds of Surya namaskar for the first time so physically talking risk and completing the challenge. This activity was the contribution to WORLD YOGA DAY but it was done after world yoga day. This activity will preserve the Yoga culture for the future generation. The experience was good but just that day wherein I was really appreciated for the body posture was the highlight of this journey. This activity will inspire others to work out and keep the community fit. This activity was successful and makes me feel proud for doing it. Initially, the activity was forceful but later on, I enjoyed it and the sense of accomplishment after the challenge felt satisfying and worth taking. The learning outcome from the experience was If you willingly wish to do something you can achieve it regardless of its difficulty and it’s applied in real life as well in future situations where things seem difficult. Additionally, if I had been doing the activity again the changes I would make is the preparations for the same should start earlier and I would try doing it with one break only. Lastly, this experience was completed with help of considering it as a CAS experience of the amount of dedication shown.
