Crumple – Handmade paper

Crumple is a name for an activity that focuses on waste management and consumption. As it is a big issue and I wanted to contribute to it, I took it as a CAS experience. In this, I used a mixture of used paper that was crushed and converted to crumbs and fevicol, and only through the use of hand, I made new A4 size papers that can be used just like normal papers.

The issue that was considered and focused in this experience was waste management and its consumption. The bigger issue that was catered here was deforestation. Paper wastage is a huge problem as papers are created through industrial processes and a lot of deforestation is required. Several thousand trees are cut just to make paper which has a high waste level. Deforestation and waste is constantly affecting the habitats of wild animals and is destroying the precious forests. This stuff is shown on newspapers, channels and websites countless times. The usage of paper to recreate paper reduces the waste that is created. Additionally, there are no industrial processes required to do the same so there is no machinery or labor cost and almost no pollution is being done.

Knowing about these issues and contributing to it increases the friendliness towards these types of problems and increases the mental capacity of one to figure out ideas to solve bigger situations that can happen in the future. Secondly, after experiencing this, it makes me feel more conscious and more active towards contributing to the solution for these global issues. The work in my activity encourages me more and more to provide little-little help or solutions for bigger global problems and situations as it helps not only me but everyone.

Making this handmade paper has made me realize that small contributions can also help a lot in solving such issues and it also is a very creative and efficient way to manage waste and consume it well.
