Farewell Dance(CAS experience 3-Riya Bajaj)

Fountainhead has this ritual of the 11th graders planning a farewell for the 12 graders. Similarly, as a volunteer, I am participating in the dance performance where I am also helping in the choreography of the dances and positioning. The volunteering includes helping them decide activities, helping the coordinators on days if required. Basically, help make this event successful. Initially, I felt that it was useless but dancing was my passion back then but due to studies I could not spare out time for dancing and gradually I left it. But I am glad that Farewell as CAS gave me an opportunity to dance and make it one of the prior tasks to be done apart from studies which I was happy about and I stopped regretting this Farewell dancing. For the practice, I attended early-in sessions, utilized free slots for it, on weekends contributed 2-3 hours of practice. With the help of this experience, I have developed time management skills, learnt being determined for tasks and learned collaborating

Learning outcome 4: commitment to and perseverance

Committing and being persistent to the activity is easy but when it comes to application it becomes difficult. Especially when it’s a group task. Figuring out time in common teamwork where all the dancers could practice and matching that time was difficult. Additionally in a short period of time, we were asked to complete choreography with complete practice hence commitment was necessary in order to successfully complete the experience. Persistence was shown I did not want to come early to school for practice but showing dedication and persistence I managed to come. By commitment and being persistent, I mean figuring out time for the activity and being there to practice on time. All in all showing commitment and dedication to the task and having a positive result makes the commitment feel worthwhile and it feels good that the hard work pays off.

Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Collaboration with others has always been easy for me since it makes the work easier also it makes it more fun and personally I like being surrounded by people probability of being motivated for the accomplishment of a task is certain. But when different minds get together difference of opinion takes place in this activity there were differences of opinion leading to fights it was difficult but one sacrificed and figured out solutions so I found it moderate since either I or the opponent sacrificed. Being a volunteer I as such faced no difficulty but one thing that I felt was sometimes that my voice was not being heard and decisions being not in my favor and for the same sometimes I kept quiet and when voiced it led to an argument and to deal with it figuring out a win-win situation or ended up shouting. All of us had different ideas taking lead would make it easier to decide the final decision and this being a teamwork task simplified the work with help of allocating responsibilities which is why I prefer teamwork.

Concluding, this experience has helped me develop a learner profile Risk-taker since I have this fear of stage so I would be stepping out of my comfort zone and dancing in front of 100+ people. This activity makes the Farewel memorable for the 12th graders since the dances are based on their journey of the fountainhead. The experience was worth doing since we had many such moments wherein we enjoyed, we fought but managed to do. Every practice session had this moment where all of us were laughing our hearts out. But since this event was emotionally attached to the seniors we showed dedication and made it worth it for them. One thing that I would want to make change for the practice session better is to compromise while managing the session being polite. In the future, any team task is polite and considerate for others. SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT POINT. Lastly, the CAS experience allows me to be a risk-taker in a supportive environment as all of them are performing there is no big deal so looking at them and being confident enough to perform makes this CAS experience worth selecting as it. I think if this had not been my CAS experience I would have backed out but with the dedication and persistence of CAS, I overcome the stage fear.
