CAS Reflection – Participating in a frisbee tournament

Aryan Ramsha

I am a person who loves to play sports, my favourite sport is basketball and I’ve played many tournaments in the sport but I wanted to try something new, something that I’ve never tried before. CAS in grades 11 and 12 gave me the opportunity to take a part in a frisbee tournament. In this experience, only one of the three elements from CAS was covered which was activity as I had to play in this experience. I had a lot of fun while participating in this tournament as it was new to me as I have not participated in a frisbee tournament before this.

LO1:- Once I started playing the game I immediately identified my strengths and weaknesses, my strengths were catching and my weakness was throwing, I was new to the sport hence I didn’t know how to throw the disc. Now that I’m aware of my strengths and weaknesses I’d love to work upon my weaker spots and make them strong so that I can get better at this game. It is very important for us to know about of strengths and weaknesses as if we won’t be aware of them we won’t have anything to work upon hence knowing them is the first step towards getting good at anything.

LO2:- The most challenging thing in the whole tournament was that I was new to the sport so I wasn’t aware of all the rules hence I unknowingly committed a few fouls that might’ve caused my team points. I have played the sport before sometimes where there were no referees so most of the fouls were ignored so this time was very different from the other times. I overcome this challenge by reflecting upon my previous matches and learning about the fouls from more experienced players that have been playing this sport for a long time. I feel great about undertaking this challenge as after reflecting upon my games I didn’t cause that many mistakes. It is very important for us to take new challenges as we can learn a lot from them.

My takeaways from this CAS experience were that I showcased the learner profile risk-taker and communicator, risk-taker as this was a new sport to me still I went and participated. Communicator because while reflecting on my previous games I had to talk to more experienced players also during the match when I needed their help or attention. Taking a part in this experience got me a sense of joy as I enjoyed playing the tournament also I’d apply the learning from this experience in many other places where I’m about to step away from trying something new, the learning that I got from this experience ( trying new things ) will help me in achieving that.
