Visiting an Orphanage

LO’s : Engagement with issues of global significance & Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

On March 10th, I visited an orphanage with the goal of teaching basic math to the children there. As I arrived, I noticed how the surroundings were quite basic, with limited resources and facilities. The children were eager to learn and showed enthusiasm for my presence.

As we started the lesson, I noticed that some of the children had a basic understanding of math, while others struggled to grasp the concepts. It was clear that many of them lacked access to quality education, which made it difficult for them to learn and succeed academically.

I tried to tailor the lesson to the children’s varying levels of knowledge, making sure to explain the concepts in a clear and concise manner. I also incorporated real-world examples to make the lesson more relatable and engaging.

As the lesson progressed, I could see the children’s confidence growing as they started to understand the concepts. Their eagerness to learn was inspiring, and it made me realize the impact that quality education can have on a child’s life.

Reflecting on this experience, I can see how it connects with the issue of education. Access to education is a fundamental right, yet many children around the world lack the resources and opportunities to receive a quality education. By volunteering at the orphanage and teaching the children, I was able to contribute to addressing this issue and making a small difference in their lives.

Overall, this experience helped me understand the importance of education and the role that individuals can play in promoting it. By connecting with Learning Outcomes 6 and 7, I was able to develop my communication and collaboration skills while also gaining a deeper appreciation for the transformative power of education.
