Participating in FS got talent, fashion show

FS got talent was an event that gave people an opportunity to present their strongest skills, but it had a few things that were new to the FS culture like the fashion show. At first I was a bit hesitant to participate, but eventually took part in it with a friend who is just as excited about fashion as I am. Even though I am more into fashion design, we didn’t have much time so instead we styled 7 outfits for 3 models (using their clothes). I really wanted to win because it would mean a lot to me and help me in my resume as well.

The part that I thought would be the most difficult was to find models but it was quite easy, we had some really confident friends who were ready to walk for us. I think the most challenges that I faced was during styling and then right before the show. it was hard to style them because we had to keep a lot of things in mind and one being the fact that it was going to be in school so it had to be ‘school appropriate’, other than this we also had a lot of disagreements with the models because there were times they didn’t like what they were wearing, hence I also learned to deal with them and to try an come to a common ground. The show was very stressful but extremely fun at the same time.

As an individual I think I figured I had a good eye for important fashion elements like proportion, fabric and colors but there were areas that I struggled like hair and makeup and other accessories but my friend helped me with the same. I think my weakness made me realize that I had always been very engrossed in just the garments and not the whole outfit.

At the end of the show, all the models and me came out with banners that said ‘my body my choice’ just to make it clear that even if this was a competition and that we were going to be ‘marked’ or ‘judged’ we wanted the audience to know that in reality it really shouldn’t matter and that no one should judge others based on what they wear. It also was a sign of support for the protests against the abortion laws in the US. Other than this we made sure to give credits to profound designers who inspired some of our looks like miu miu and celebrities like Kristen Stewart. For the same we made a card with the description for the inspiration for each look so that the judges could understand the outfits better.

Lastly, the whole experience really motivated me because we got some of the best reviews from teachers, students and the judges. The audience really enjoyed the show and so did we, but most importantly it was an experience that taught me how to be prepared and plan a show properly and more professionally.
