CAS entry 8: Service_ Anand Utsav

Anand utsav was an event organised by grade 12 students for the school’s support and admin staff in order to show them our gratitude towards them for helping us through all these years. The event had many games and activities planned for their entertainment and fun.

I was a part of the on day volunteer team wherein I helped with the decor of the venues and carried out games for the staff members at one of the stalls.

Learning outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

One of the strengths that I identified was that I am a creative person, which came in very handy when I helped make various decoration items and a life-size tic tac toe. One of the other strengths that I identified was that I have good social skills and put them to use while assisting the game stall and helping the staff members play the game and interacting with them simultaneously.

Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

I was working as a part of a team with around 20 volunteers involved. Since this was a large-scale event, there was a lot of work that had to be done, so each of us was assigned a different task to help speed up the decoration and stall setup process. In the end, all of us in pairs went on with managing our particular game stalls.
Therefore, Working in synergy helped ensure that the event ran smoothly and in accordance with the plan.

Learning outcome 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

I chose to volunteer for this event as I believe in the idea of ‘act of kindness’ and giving back to others for the service provided by them. The support and admin staff has worked very hard through all the years to attend to our requests and help us in every way possible and I believe that acknowledging that is a must. So being a part of this event helped me to just that by giving me an opportunity to show my gratitude.
