BM distribution coordinator (activity)

For my CAS project, I participated as distribution coordinator in business management’s swappers stop event. I had to collect used objects from students and teachers and allocate points to them. These were items they didn’t use anymore and swapped them with someone who wants and needs them for sustainability purposes. Fast fashion has recently become a trend and has resulted in many clothes getting dumped in landfills and it’s unsustainable for the environment as they don’t decompose.

Our increased needs and wants make us buy a lot of stuff that doesn’t end up getting used. Through this event, we can swap our unused items with someone else and promote sustainability.

LO 3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

This was a month-long process where we had to decide upon the points to award to different objects. We had to decide upon how many points to award to objects like shirts, pants, jewelry, and a lot of other everyday objects. It was difficult to decide upon a common matrix that we could use to allocate points as objects differed in size and value; belts and sunglasses are small but have the same monetary value. So we allocated similar points to them. Even items within the same category such as perfumes; some perfumes are far more valuable and expensive than others. So it was a challenge to come up with appropriate points. Moreover, the collection team also went for a collection drive to collect the objects, made tokens that people used on the day of the event to buy objects as well as managed the teams. We also had to coordinate with the decor item to decide on the suitable decor and where to place the items according to the decor.

LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

As mentioned earlier, it was a month-long process. we sometimes had to miss our BM slots and come in early in as well to get our work done. This required commitment as we have a lot of assignments and submissions in grade 12. My commitment to completing my CAS project as well as do something good for the environment really got me going in the tough times.

LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Our collection team had to work collaboratively to decide upon a lot of things such as where to keep and store the inventory of items we were receiving so that they do not get damaged or dirty. Teamwork and collaboration were very important between the team to make sure that we were on the same page and that everyone was aware of the group’s proceedings to avoid any future problems. When our team was well aware, then only we would guide others with their queries. This is a benefit of working collaboratively.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

This event matches the UNSDG goal number 11- sustainable cities and communities. This aims to make out communities and cities all sustainable in the long run. By swapping unused items, we promoted sustainability and took a step towards a future where everything is sustainable. I felt extremely proud to be a part of this and make a difference.

LO7-

Overall the event became a huge success because of our hard work and dedication and I felt good about promoting a good cause such as sustainability.
