Model of United Nations is general assembly which they both are a simulations of how an actual conference takes place in United Nations. They are series of programs run worldwide with the aim of helping participants further understanding about united nations and educated them spread knowledge, awareness and understanding of the global issues/ world issues through diplomacy. MUN is ramified in different committees where participants are provided tasks on solving a global issue through research, lobbying, drafting , debating , and at the end of the conferences write a proposal with countermeasures with the involvement and consensus of the countries that were present.

Current events have always been one of my areas of interest. As it not only gives a platform for developing leadership, public speaking, problem-solving abilities, and the opportunity to participate in UNOOSA discussions on the theme of “Long Term Sustainability in Outer Space,”

While filling out the form, I kept going back and forth on whether I should apply or not because public speaking abilities were not my cup of tea. One of the reasons for this was a lack of confidence in stating the argument that I wrote because I kept doubting if the idea was genuine or not. The point of speaking from a country’s stance also tests my speaking abilities since you have to use a different tone, and sentence structure , and you are required to be well aware of the country that you are taking a stance, which was Japan for me, and you are supposed to research facts, figures, claims, and arguments delivering them form a delegate ensuring that you are not modifying the statements that can lead to misinterpretation of the material. As a result of this experience, I developed and enhanced my research abilities, as well as learned how to identify and classify reliable sources, whether they are reliable, credible, or unbiased. This challenged every part of public speaking, research, and personal confidence because these skills interrelated and affected the outcome considerably, but it also opened a door where it drives me to find a way to practice these skills and meet the challenges front on by practicing them in front of someone and in front of a mirror to attain my desired objective.

On the contrary, collaboration skills assisted a lot and were by major strengths as with, asserting claims and countering them you have to make allies and maintain the relationship with other countries dependent on the contribution supplied keeping in mind the agenda of the committee but with that also comes the present rule and regulation and agreements and their history all of this information had to be kept in mind as an ally of a country. Collaboration played a role till the finish of the MUN because at the end we have a right to a resolution paper where we have stated the negotiation and alternative solutions and concluded the committee in respect of all the countries and their stance, so with brainstorming, collaborations took place in resolving clashing viewpoints, demand and finally executing them on the paper. So, someplace or other, you may say collaboration is like a hidden key that, when used appropriately, benefits a lot.

The conference focused on three major global issues: “space debris,” “emissions,” and “use of ASAT weapons.” On these issues, we explored countries’ perspectives and analysed their effects, as well as countries’ choices, which were evaluated by delegates while remaining open-minded to all statements, states, and actions. We discussed how the possession of resources, the availability of resources, and the availability of skilled workers can help humanity and shape its future, or how it can be a catastrophic threat to humanity and future generations due to all the emissions causing damage to ozone layers, how space debris, debris falling in the ocean on land, and the risk of future collisions can affect the environment we live in and possibly be a threat to function.

To summarise, attending and participating in the MUN demonstrated and allowed me to understand how the actual UN functions, as well as dive into the opinions of UN state members given in the committee. Everyone stated and spoke in their respective countries while honoring all activities that were examined by the delegate to address the issue and delve deeper into the environmental crisis and the ethic of the new laws that should be put in place.
