Experience 7 – Trekking | Activity/Service

It was our summer vacation. We had planned a small trek to the Deo Tibba Base Camp. We gained an altitude of 13500ft above sea level. As an adventure junkie myself, I was really pumped. However, it was very difficult to convice my parents in allowing me to go. Not only the parents, but also my friends. They rather preffered a lesiure trip than an adventure. At the end, we ended up having a trek that we all enjoyed. Cleaning was not planned earlier, nonetheless, once we reached out campsites we saw how badly it was treated with packets lying and discarded by other tourists. From the first base camp we decided to do something for the enviornment.

LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Adventure activities are my strong suit. I am an outdoor person who loves different activities, not only trekking but also rafting or sky diving or even surfing. To make sure that this trip would only be about myself and socialising with my friends we had decided to leave out phones behind for the trek. This was an opportunity to develop my social skills and work on my fitness in the trek. Although, by the end of three days, Ifound myself worn out. I lacked stamina. Through this trek, I realised that my body still needs to be trained harder and that there was room for me to grow in terms of physyical fitness.

LO 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Everyday we had to pitch tents and make our own food. We were 25 friends who had to work together, divide responsibility and accomplish specific tasks. A few good with cooking made food for everyone, the rest helped collect wood for fire at night and set tents for everyone. Without a group it would be very hard for anyone to do it all by themselves. To complete the entire trek, it is collabratively done and task done as a group.

LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Quality of natural soil is depleting drastically. It is because of our human actions like pollution leading to such hazards on the enviornment. To correct a few wrong doings we cleaned the campsites that we came across when we stayed. We reached our campsites at 2 in the afternoon everyday after our trek. With a small rest we had a few snacks and allocated some time to provide our service. This contributes to the 13th SDG of climate action by making a more friendlier and sustainable enviornment.

LO 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While climbing up the mountains, as we picked up trash from all campsites, we tied the garbage bags to a tree as we could not take any extra weight while trekking up. However, we went down the same path as we returned and assembled all of the trash on the first camp and discarded it properly. I do not think that this crosses any moral or ethical values, infact, it lines paralelly as we worked on improving a society or community.
