community service is something I always wanted to do I love spending time with unknown people and teaching them my specialities in what I am good at. And school gave me the opportunity to do. I am so much into arts and crafts that I can do them every time without getting bored so we were told that underprivileged children (from the nearby government and the schools) come together and learn something new, which will be facilitated by FS students. There were 6 community service sessions that happened on weekends and we had to spend 3 hours each day. We had the option of selecting the community service which we would like to provide such as dance, science experiments, operating laptops, sports, cooking, art and craft. I am passionate about arts and so I taught them art and craft. We had to teach the government school kids who didn´t have much exposure to the extra circular activity.
Learning outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
it was difficult to explain to them because they are not well worst with English or Hindi they only Gujarati which I don’t know so for me communication was difficult and also they were kids so can’t even blame them so the first day was quite difficult for me in communication but then luckily my batch changed and a got those students who knew Hindi. Before conducting community service sessions we had to plan what kind of art and craft we would like to teach them. In every session we had to teach them something new, so we had to plan priorly. We also had to practice what we had to teach so that we give them quality learning. I discover that my craft can end up perfectly without any mistakes also now I feel because I was enjoying myself with them I got that I am patient before this activity i used to think i will get annoyed by the kids if they won’t be able to understand my instructions but after the activity, I understood that I was very patient with them. also, I think now planning or initiating anything in the future will be easier.
Learning outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
commitment is necessary because we were divided into batches so if I don’t come my batch will have issues. it was on Saturday and Sunday that’s when we all have our plans exactly like that my family also had a plan which was not easy to cancel but I had to cancel because of the community service I denied to go wherever my family planned. I was committed and attended all the community service sessions, even though I had holidays, exams, and also extra classes but still I showed up for the sessions. It was a little difficult to manage all the kids together and teach them. The kids had different paces of learning so I had to match with all of them. All of the kids asked me at the same time which made it more difficult for me.
learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
working with others is both for me easy and difficult I have experienced both the scenario in community service and in other activities also it was very difficult for me when my partner was absent the whole load was on me so internally divided the group into half so it was quite easy for me but when she was absent I understood it was so important to work collaboratively teamwork always motivates you.
